Our inaugural hike was a 4-mile walk on Loop Road Scenic Drive in Big Cypress National Preserve. The preserve protects a whopping 729,000 acres of the Florida Everglades and was established in 1974. We had originally planned to slog through Gator Hook Trail, but water levels were high and we opted to stay on dry land. With all the wildlife sightings, it proved to be a good choice!
